Happy February, guys! They say the groundhog saw his shadow and we have another weeks of frigid temps, but that’s not going to stop my fun…
Anyone who knows me knows I am a huge museum/art fan, always have been. There’s something so awe-inspiring about an art installation, I inevitably ending up really feeling something deep at some point in every museum I go to, so I keep going.
This past Friday we went to the Andy Warhol Museum in Pittsburgh and I have to say, it did not disappoint. When people think of Andy, they probably go right to the Campbell’s soup can, which I get, but gosh, he was so much more than that. From the moment you walk through the door, you are blown away by the huge piece of Andy and Marilyn Monroe.
So, certain Friday’s in January and February, UPMC hosted a free admission night, so the place was buzzing with people of all ages and backgrounds. They had a bar and a DJ on the bottom level to help set the mood. While the free Friday’s are done, I highly suggest going on any Friday night from 5-10 for half-price admission, making it $10 for an adult.
The museum is broken up into 7 different levels, highlighting different parts of his career. My personal favorites were the Flower series from 1964, the Statue of Liberty canvas, and his take on Botticelli’s 1480’s painting of Venus De Milo, “The Birth of Venus”.
But, these were a close second…
For a fun interactive exhibit, there is the “Silver Clouds: More Than Just Hot Air” room-
So, obviously we took advantage of the free Good Friday night, but like I said, it’s definitely worth the $10 to go any other Friday night! Perfect for a date night or for time with your girls, or if you’re lucky, both!
