Feels good to be back in the saddle, folks! I wanted to highlight a new spot, as the latest installment of my Wandering Locally series. With a cool vibe, great coffee, killer paninis, and employees with killer personalities, De Fer Coffee and Tea on Smallman, I see you.
I have to say, I am a sucker for any spot that has the garage door that opens to the street, you know the ones. I also love the mix of wood and brick inside, and of course, as always, a good mural will get me every time. De Fer is all about supporting different artists; some local; for instance, the art pieces on the walls are abstract paintings, inspired by Istanbul, Turkey, done by the very talented Jenny Pearson. You can find more of her work on Insta at “from.a.great.height”.
Obviously, you don’t want to miss their coffee, which is brewed with integrity and thought, but you can also pick up a great cocktail, wine, or a brew. If you are into supporting the locals, they have Wigle Whiskey and Grist House Beer on the menu. For being a self-proclaimed “Brunch girl”, I have yet to go there for their breakfast options, but I have however, had their Prosciutto Panini, as well as the Gorgonzola Panini with fig jam (!) and I was not disappointed. Check out their full menu here; De Fer Menu.
Seeing live music is one of my favorite things to do, so I have made it a point to stop by when the Eddan Sparks Trio was performing at De Fer. Check their Instagram out here; Eddan Sparks Trio . I love their mix of rock & roll, funk, and soul. If you can imagine a mix of Red Hot Chili Peppers, The Beatles, and Stevie Wonder, then you’re heading in the right direction. Be sure to check out De Fer’s Facebook page to check out more of their upcoming events. Including “Burgher Night Fridays” with Burghers Brewing , as well as other local bands.
